“The face is at once the irreparable being-exposed of humans and the very opening in which they hide and stay hidden. The face is the only location of community, the only possible city.” Giorgio Agamben
Meg Stuart says of The Only Possible City : “What’s in the timing of things? In the Alumix factory, I read in the information file that clocks and electronic devices did not work, because of the magnetic fields… Every work is made under the specifics of a time regime. To choreograph is to come to terms with that regime. To dance is to traverse it. Face it. I think of images as excavation sites. To vacillate between the simplest of gestures, working the trace suspended in repetition, the face: the prime canvas. The close-up as a means to hone the optical unconscious and involuntary memories of everyday behavior, singular and collective, manufactured and fractured at the same time.”
Meg Stuart is a choreographer and dancer. She is living in Berlin and works in Brussels with her company Damaged Goods. She has created more than 20 works for stage and collaborates with artists active in video, plastic art, music and dance.
